Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy for Kids

As a child psychologist, I specialize in helping children 8-12 years old to overcome emotional and behavioural challenges that may be hindering their everyday life.

What Is Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy?

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected, and that by changing our thoughts and behaviours, we can change the way we feel.

CBT is a collaborative, goal-oriented approach focused on helping children identify unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour that are causing distress or interfering with their ability to function.

Ultimately, the goal of CBT is to help kids change their patterns of thinking and behaviour in order to achieve more positive outcomes.

By learning to recognize and challenge negative thoughts and behaviours, kids can improve their mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve their overall well-being.

CBT can help kids understand and manage:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Anger management
  • Behavioural problems (e.g., aggression, defiance)
  • Phobias (e.g., fear of dogs, fear of heights)
  • Stress management
  • Perfectionism
  • Low self-esteem
  • Family or peer conflict
  • Grief and loss
  • Coping with parent separation/divorce
  • Academic difficulties (e.g., organization, time management)

How Does It Work?

I tailor my approach to meet your child's individual needs and developmental stage.

I use age-appropriate techniques and strategies to help them understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours interact to create the current outcomes in their lives, and how to shift those patterns to meet their goals.

And I work closely with parents every step of the way, to ensure you have the tools and support you need to help your child transfer what they're learning in clinic to the real world, where it really counts, and to reinforce positive changes at home.

My child-friendly therapy sessions are conducted in a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment that encourages children to express themselves openly.

I understand that every child is unique, and I strive to create a customized treatment plan that aligns with their specific needs and goals.

As a child psychologist, I'm dedicated to providing the highest level of care and support to help children and families thrive.

I believe that, with the right supports, every child has the potential to overcome their challenges and achieve their full potential.
