FAQs

How Much Do You Charge?

I currently charge $250 per session.

Which leads us to the next question…

Are Your Services Covered By Insurance/Benefits?

Short answer: Yes. The majority of my clients have insurance or other benefits that cover services in part or in whole.

Long answer: It depends on your specific insurance policy/benefits agreement. Every insurance and benefits plan is different, so you’ll want to get a clear understanding of what and how much will be reimbursed.

I recommend speaking to your insurance or benefits provider directly and asking the following questions:

  • Does my plan cover mental health/counselling/psychology benefits?
  • What is the total amount or number of sessions covered per person/family, per coverage period?
  • What is the total amount or percentage covered per session?
  • When does my coverage period start and end?
  • How much is remaining per person/family in my current coverage period?
  • How do I submit my receipts for reimbursement, and what is the process?

Once you’ve had these conversations, you’ll have a much more accurate understanding of your financial investment.

I do not provide direct billing for insurance.

You are responsible to pay for services upfront in full, and submit your receipts for reimbursement. The one exception to the above information is this…

Do You Provide Direct Billing to FSCD?

If you have a current agreement with Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD), you may qualify for financial support for individual/family counselling or specialized services. As a vendor, I can direct bill FSCD, provided I have a copy of your current FSCD agreement on file.

My full session fees apply.

Your FSCD agreement will state the portion of fees that FSCD will cover per session, however, my full session rates are in effect for all clients. The remaining portion per session, and any session fees or invoices not covered by FSCD for any reason, will be billed to you directly. You can then submit to your insurance or benefits provider as described above.

Please speak to your FSCD Caseworker if you have questions about:

  • whether you have individual/family counselling hours or specialized services hours allotted in your agreement
  • the total number of hours you have per contract year, according to your FSCD agreement
  • the number of hours you have remaining in your current contract year,
  • what portion (amount) will be covered by FSCD per hour (session).

Now that we have the “how much” out of the way, you’re probably wondering about the “how-to”. Like, how long it takes to get your invoices and receipts (and therefore, get reimbursed). And what options you have for payment… (aka, can I get points for therapy ). Don’t worry… I’ve got you covered.

How Does Invoicing and Payment Work?

Invoices are available and payment is required the same day services are provided. You can choose to pay however you’d like (cash, etransfer, or credit card). Receipts are issued at the time of payment, so you can submit to your benefits right away!

Regardless of how you choose to pay, a credit card is required for all clients, and will be charged for any payments outstanding by the end of the day.

The good news? Those of you who – like me – just appreciate having bills paid automatically so you don’t have to think about it (aka, remember to do it), can just set it and forget it. Your card will be charged automatically for each session at the end of the day. And your receipt will be waiting for you when you wake up in the morning!

The bad news? I also use those credit cards to charge you when you don’t show up. Or when you cancel without the required notice. Which leads us into our next couple of questions…

How Do You Schedule Appointments?

Typically, I work with clients who are committed to attending sessions on a recurring schedule, weekly or alternating weeks. Scheduling is determined at intake, based on your needs and goals, and based on availability.

Commitment To Our Agreed-Upon Schedule Is A Requirement For Us to Work Together.

As a working mom with busy kids, school, and activity schedules, I understand that life is busy.

That being said, your treatment schedule is a priority to me. I commit to reserving your appointments exclusively for you until the time treatment ends.

And, in turn, I require you to commit to keeping those appointments.

Repeated cancellations or reschedules will require a parents-only session to discuss further, and may result in losing your reserved timeslot, or a referral to another service provider who may be better able to meet your treatment schedule and commitment level.

What's Your Cancellation Policy?

Of course, there will be times when things come up.

  • emergencies
  • illnesses
  • births
  • deaths
  • medical procedures
  • school field trips
  • special occasions
  • vacations
  • etc…

I’m not a monster… I get it! Also, I’ve got kids too, so I really get it! There are just some things you can’t avoid, shouldn’t avoid, or that you don’t want your kids, yourself, or your family to miss out on. And that’s completely okay and acceptable!

I have a high level of commitment to my clients. It’s extremely rare that I cancel appointments unexpectedly. I ask for the same level of commitment from my clients in return.

That being said, if and when something does come up or is coming up that requires cancelling or rescheduling, a minimum of 48-hours advance notice is required. The more notice the better, and rescheduling is always preferred to simply cancelling.

What if I Don’t Cancel With At Least 48-Hours Notice?

Hey, it happens sometimes… Life get’s busy and we completely forget an appointment. Or forget to cancel an appointment. Or something comes up and we just don’t or can’t make it.

I don’t judge you for it! But I do charge you for it…

If you just completely miss your appointment, the full session fee will be charged to the credit card on file, without exception.

Usually, I try to call first

  1. to make sure you’re okay! and
  2. to see if you’re on your way or if you forgot, if you’re able to attend at least part of your session.

(see, I told you I’m not a monster!)

If you cancel after the minimum 48-hour notice for cancellations window has passed, the full session fee applies, and will be charged to the credit card on file at the time of cancellation, unless you are able to reschedule and attend at an alternate time within the week.

Insurance and FSCD do not cover fees for missed sessions or late cancellations.

Is There Anything Else I Need to Know?

One other thing to note is that therapy only works as much as you do.

Taking what you’re learning in the therapy room and applying it in your day-to-day is the difference between just feeling better once every week or two, and truly achieving your goals.

Almost all of my clients are required to do some form of homework in order to assist with this application. Basically, it’s taking what we’ve done in session and applying it in a way that will help you get the results you’re looking to achieve! And it only takes about 5 minutes a day.

For really young kids, this often means you’re the one doing the homework. For older kids, it still requires your support with implementation.
